The terminology like “endangered species” and “extinct species” subsist today because of the over-exploitation of the wild reserves ranging from early-uncivilized humans to the today’s poachers.

It was decades ago, during pre-independence, when Britain was invading our country, that hunting wild was practiced for recreation, pleasure and prejudice. Populations of uncivilized men, stately rulers of diverse dynasties, the British officials of that time and today’s modern man, have been viciously slaughtering the wild for food and entertainment. The exploitation has started over ages leading to the exhaustion of the wild reserves. Though hunting history records reveal pride and valor of our leaders, the outcome is the today’s thinning wildlife population.

The concept of Help Wildlife Foundation originated during a guest lecture by Dr. S.K.Verma during the DNA2010 conference held at the Mekaster Auditorium, IETE, Osmania University, on 30th Oct 2010, followed by a discussion correspondingly. The lecture was focused on the inhumane treatment of the wild by humans since time immemorial and application of science, in particular the ‘Universal Primer Technology‘ invented by Dr. Verma and Singh (2003) (USA patent 7141364, Australia Patent 2001258719, China Patent ZL01823181.0, South Africa Patent 2003/7489, India Patent 224401) in combating the wildlife crime.
Dr. Sunil Verma detailed on the above technology that indeed could establish the identity of animal species for forensic investigations and Law enforcement. Dr. Verma informed that the technology has led to establishment of India’s first ‘National Wildlife Forensic Cell’ in the LaCONES of CCMB (a premier Research Institute of Government of India, located in Hyderabad) and has been used to investigate more than 500 cases pertaining to Wildlife Crime, including the famous case related to an Indian Film Star, who was accused of a Wildlife Offence. In an interactive session, an associate from the audience had questioned on the expense for the sample analysis, for which the reply was, approximately Rs.7000. He anticipates seeing a day when all these tests would be gratis.
On the Origin of Help Wildlife-the historical moments during DNA2010
Dr. P.K. Shrivastava’s (an eminent Scientist of CDRI) proposal, at that instance, to work on a foundation that would exclusively labor for the cause of wildlife conservation was provocative. Upheld by the exceptionally enthusiastic audience, eminent scientist, public figures and more than 50 IPS officers present in the audience, the idea silhouette began to take form. In a short cover, the proposal had turned out to be imperative and had materialized untimely.
Thus, a journey had begun towards a dream of many to cherish in our hearts, the dream of the man and the mute living in harmony.
A journey is made by a succession of steps…The steps that ought to be organized on a definite path…The founding principles are to exemplify this road… for a successful outcome!
